Better Schools
Innovation in Education. Mayor Rawlings-Blake is committed to investing in innovative programs that support the Baltimore City Public Schools’ goals to improve academic achievement. She has doubled educational grants to programs like Teach for America, which is proven to promote student achievement. Mayor Rawlings-Blake will continue to advocate for the approval of new specialized charter schools to give parents and students more choices and educational opportunities.
Safer Streets
Reducing Gun Violence. Mayor Rawlings-Blake will continue to fight for stronger state laws for enhanced penalties on illegal guns and repeat violent offenders. Mayor Rawlings-Blake will seek new ways to target gun violence by focusing enforcement efforts on the criminals most likely to carry illegal guns and commit acts of violence.
Ethics and Reform
Smart, Long-Term Planning. Mayor Rawlings-Blake is working with financial experts and stakeholders to create a first-of-its-kind 10-year financial plan for Baltimore City Government in order to reduce city spending, improve core services, and prevent future budget shortfalls to create a pro-jobs, pro-growth tax structure for Baltimore’s future.
Growing Economy
Jobs for the Future. Creating the jobs of tomorrow is a top economic pripority for Mayor Rawlings-Blake. The Mayor will increase funding for the City’s Emerging Technology Center (ETC) Incubator program to create the next generation of high-tech jobs right here in Baltimore. To date, ETC companies have received over $1 billion in investment, have been issued nearly 200 patents and have created 270 million in economic impact.
Stronger Neighborhoods
Property Tax Relief. Mayor Rawlings-Blake will target future property tax reductions to Baltimore City homeowners using revenue generated from the City's future slots location. By targeting reductions to City homeowners first, future reductions will have a bigger impact, encourage new home ownership and reduce the property tax rate for Baltimore's families. Mayor Rawlings-Blake will continue to support and expand the use of property tax credits for newly-constructed and rehabilitated houses for homeowners.
