Summer Internship

Mayor Rawlings-Blake is looking for motivated and civically engaged high school students to apply for her Summer Internship program.  The Rawlings-Blake for Mayor Internship is designed to give students an inside look at how a political campaign actually works.

Interns will be responsible for helping canvass Baltimore City (door knocking), phone banking (calling people to help get support) and several other essential tasks to help elect the Mayor.

Interns responsibilities will vary based on previous experience and demonstrated ability to work well with the Mayor’s staff.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and why should I want to be an intern for her?
Stephanie Rawlings-Blake is the current Mayor of Baltimore.  She is a proud graduate of the Baltimore City Public Schools and sends her own daughter to them.  Since assuming office in February of 2010 she has fought to restore funding to the Baltimore City Public Schools.  Under her leadership the City Schools have experienced tremendous gains in graduation, retention, and enrollment.  As a result, she is looking for current students to serve on her campaign staff to tell the story of what is possible in Baltimore.  With your help, we can spread the message across the city that when we work together, we can make Baltimore better, safer and stronger.

Who can apply for the Rawlings-Blake for Mayor Internship?
The Mayor is seeking rising 10th, 11th, 12th, and college freshman that are currently attending the Baltimore City Public Schools.  Applications from students attending other area high schools will be considered.  All applicants must be in good standing with their high school in order to be considered.

Who is the ideal candidate for the Mayor’s internship?
Ideal candidates for the Mayor’s internship are students who have a genuine interest in public service, government, and improving the lives of residents in Baltimore City.

How many hours a week will I work?
Intern’s schedules will be flexible and negotiable.  How much you work will largely be based on how involved you want to be in the campaign.

Will I get paid?
The Rawlings-Blake for Mayor Internship is a non-paid summer internship.  You may, however, receive a letter of recommendation from the Mayor’s staff at the end of the summer depending on your performance as an intern.

Will I just be getting coffee for people or will I actually be doing real “stuff?”
You will be doing real “stuff.”  Responsibilities will vary based on intern’s interest but every intern will have the opportunity to contact voters and perform other essential tasks to help elect the Mayor.
